Abstract

Crystalline silicon was obtained from the ash of wheat (husk and spike), which was fertilized by a system of controlled release of urea. The method used was a thermal reduction (550 °C, 650 °C and 750 °C). Temperature (TGA), morphological (SEM-EDX), FTIR, XRD, and RAMAN characterizations were performed. Silicon was used to build a solar cell with this configuration ITO/CdS/Si/CP/Au, which was characterized by J-V curves. In the present work, we obtained highly crystalline silicon, which could be used for energy generation at low temperatures of magnesium-reduction. The increase of silica in wheat could be attributed to the type of fertilization. We are using an environmentally friendly system due to the reduction reaction to silicon from the ashes of what is feasible to contribute to clean energy generation at a low cost.
