Abstract

Background: Previous investigations show that metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) is associated with increased muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) and decreased baroreflex sensitivity (BRS). The obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic stress are comorbidities often found in patients with MetSyn. We tested the hypothesis that the overlap of these conditions heightens sympathetic activation and baroreflex dysfunction in these patients.
