Abstract

Obstetric emergencies in the field require coordinated, time-sensitive teamwork between emergency medical services (EMS) providers and hospital-based teams. Development of an EMS obstetric program ensures the patient receives the best care because EMS personnel will understand how pregnancy causes changes in anatomy and physiology, know the complications that can arise, and have the ability to tailor the assessment and treatment to the patient’s specific needs.
