Abstract

Selected obstetric features of 92 mothers delivering babies with polycystic disease of the kidneys were studied in a population-based sample. The stillbirth rate was four times and the infant mortality rate 30 times the national average. The incidence of threatened abortion, febrile illnesses during pregnancy and breech presentation was significantly higher than in controls. The incidence of spontaneous abortion was twice as high, and the stillbirth rate three times higher in previous or subsequent pregnancies.
