Abstract

Samples of Fe–25.3 wt.%Mn–4.4wt.%Al were heated to 1623 K, followed by quenching into cold brine. These specimens underwent a massive transformation from ferrite to austenite. This work provides the first evidence for a massive transformation in iron alloys, when these are quenched from high temperatures to produce rapid conversion of ferrite to austenite.
