Abstract

In this paper, a generic model of DC-AC converters is introduced and an active fault compensation method for the realization of fault tolerant ancillary services of wind power plants is proposed. Ancillary services include the ability to support the grid with reliable and stable power supply which is an increasingly important requirement of single wind turbines and wind farms. The reduced model presents the positive, negative and zero sequence of the three phase system and can therefore take asymmetrical faults of the electrical power system in a wind power plant into account. It is shown that the model-based scheme is able to reconstruct actuator faults and to operate the wind turbine fault tolerant against typical faults in the three-phase power system.
