Abstract

A large selection of temporal amplitude and phase spectra for the ATS‐6 beacon experiment has been analyzed. Those time periods exhibiting relatively high scintillation show two scattering mechanisms in the amplitude spectra for different ranges of the scintillation frequency whereas those periods appearing quiet show a single scattering mechanism. Unlike the amplitude spectra, the phase spectra shows a single power‐law dependence with scintillation frequency that provides information on the full range of electron density fluctuations.
