Abstract

Abstract A lime-magnesian metamorphic complex outcropping in the Amsaga series near the small butte of El Mdena Tamniert in northern Mauritania, French West Africa, consists of marbles, pyroxenites, and pyroxene or amphibole gneisses. Microscopic study shows that these rocks are the result of metamorphism of calcareous or marly sediments, mainly dolomites. Chemical analyses confirm this conclusion.
