Abstract
Developmental events in the formation of female and male reproductive organs of Gloiopeltis tenax from Taiwan, China were studied. The species is dioecious and the spermatangia are produced directly from the outermost cells of the surface layer. Carpogonial branches and auxiliary cells are produced in the same ampulla. Following fertilization, the carpogonium forms a connecting filament which fuses with the auxiliary cell of the ampulla. Gonimoblast filaments are produced from the auxiliary cell after the connecting filament has fused with it. No pericarp is present in the mature cystocarp.
