Abstract

Summary The paper describes four new species of nyctotherid ciliates of the sub-genus Aduncuperistomatus Grasse 1928 from anuran amphibians in India. Nyctotheroides (Aduncuperistomatus) cyanophlycti n. sp. from Rana cyanophlyctis and N. (A.) melanosticti n. sp. from Bufo melanostictus are characterised by the presence of a distinct sub-oesophageal canal, typical shape of the macronucleus and distinctly different “V” shaped structures. N. (A.) aurangabadensis n. sp. from Bufo melanostictus and N. (A), marathwadensis from Rana tigrina lack the sub-oesophageal canal and “V” shaped structure and have distinct size ranges besides differences in the shape of the macronucleus.
