Abstract

1. 1. The optimum reaction for phenoloxidase activity, obtained from the California red scale ( Aonidiella aurantii Mask) and from the Florida red scale ( Chrysomphalus aonidum L.), has been determined. 2. 2. Acetone, but not ethanol or methanol, was found to activate phenoloxidase, Proteolytic enzymes such as trypsin and chymotrypsin did not affect the activity. 3. 3. Potassium cyanide, sodium azide and sodium chloride suppressed strongly the enzymatic activity.
