Abstract

The pinyon needle scale infests pinyon, single-leaf pinyon, and foxtail pines in the southwestern United States. Apterous females emerge in April, are mated by winged males, oviposit, and the resulting scales feed on the needles. Males pupate on the ground in the fall or the following March.
