Abstract

Studies with a modified form of skin window have suggested that diapedesis by neutrophil leucocytes which contain the inclusion bodies of tick-borne fever is inhibited. It is postulated that the true neutropenia of tick-borne fever may, therefore, be preceded by a period during which the neutrophil leucocytes are functionally impaired. A relationship between the neutrophil leucocytes and the sequence of events in the inflammatory cycle is noted with reference to tick-borne fever and chronic staphylococcal abscess formation.
