Abstract

Copulation in the aquatic caecilian Typhlonectes compressicaudus was observed and photographed. The period of copulation lasted over 3 hrs and the use of the male intromittent organ was documented. A summary of the methods used for maintenance of the specimens is presented. An analysis of the urogenital systems including a comparison of copulatory patterns between this species and Chthonerpeton indistinctum is undertaken.
