The Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is a diurnal ground-dwelling cuckoo, which is a permanent resident in the arid and semiarid regions of southwestern North America. Some features of its physiology are known (Calder and Bentley 1967; Calder and Schmidt-Nielsen 1967; Calder and Schmidt-Nielsen 1968; Calder 1968).
