Abstract
Three black fly species were collected in Beiwan area of Hababe county, Altay district, Xinjing Uigur Autonomous Region in China. Among these, Simulium (Byssodom) maculatum (Meigen, 1804) is the preponderant species in the region. S. maculatum was mainly active during daylight; the activity peak was higher in the afternoon than in the morning. The black fly species composition at three different elevations was conducted. S. truncatum was most abundant at higher elevations, possibly due to the occurrence of bird hosts there. Two new species, Simulium (Eusimulium) beiwanense, sp.nov. and Simulium (Simulium) truncatum, sp.nov. are described from the female. The type material of the new species are deposited at the Medical Entomology Collection Gallery, Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology, Beijing, China.
