Abstract

Additional information on Uromyces rumicis, the rust of curly dock (Rumex crispus L.), is presented. The alternate host, Ranunculus ficaria L., evidently plays only a minor role in the life cycle of the pathogen in the area of Rome, Italy. The rust overwinters in this area as urediospores or vegetative mycelia on the primary host. Observations on etiology and symptomatology are described. Evidence for the existence of physiologic races is presented, as well as for variation in disease reaction mediated by host individuals.
