Abstract

Studies have been carried out with tick-borne fever isolated from sheep on two closely situated tick infested farms only one of which experiences losses from enzootic staphylococcal infection. Cross infection experiments demonstrated that the strains of tick-borne fever involved were immunologically indistinguishable in sheep. Infection of susceptible adult Blackface ewes and lambs, however, suggested that the two strains may differ in virulence, the more severe strain originating from the farm where enzootic staphylococcal infection occurred.
