Abstract

Confusion in therapuetic aim hampers effective work with severely deprived and ostracized families. A family's potential for change is not mobilized if therapists are afraid of “imposing” middle-class standards, or of discussing professionally with other agencies the pathological home situations that often make child placement mandatory.
