Abstract

With the advent of increased dental services in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, the dentist may have occasion to study patients with various neuromuscular disabilities that are related to the muscles of mastication. It is known that motor unit potential is measurable under drug therapy. The investigation reported here was pursued to ascertain the quantitative values of coordinated oral muscle activity by means of the transduced rhombus and the measurable biting pressure. Research techniques, such as transduction of mandibular movements in normal persons and persons afflicted with neuromuscular disorders, should be explored in greater depth. Illumination of the stomatognathic clinical problems may be broadened by such tools in developing treatment procedures.
