It is found that the central intensity of 12-micron emission lines is greater in plages than in the quiet sun, with an equivalent width up to 3 times greater than for the quiet sun. The magnetic fields measured in plages range from 300 to 800 Gauss. The secant-like limb brightening, and line ratios suggest that the lines are optically thin and are formed in collisional equilibrium with Mg II in a thin layer just above the temperature minimum.
