Abstract

Clinical pharmacy practice was observed in HIV treatment centres in London and Oxford, UK during 2002. The responsibilities and services provided by pharmacists specialising in HIV medicine were similar to those of their counterparts in Australian hospitals. Notable differences included the practice of pharmacists writing electronic discharge prescriptions, the regular provision of consumer medicines information and the dispensing of pre‐packed medication to maintain patient confidentiality. In the UK, HIV drugs are supplied without charge compared to Australia where a copayment is required.
