Abstract

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) has been systematically surveyed for CO line emission by COHEN et al. [1], who found a general correspondence between the CO emission and such Population I objects as supernova remnants (SNRs) and H II regions. However, because of the limited spatial resolution of the survey (8′.8), a detailed association between individual objects and molecular cloud complexes was not possible. Guided by the survey results, we have undertaken a study of SNR- molecular cloud associations using the Swedish-ESO Submillimeter Telescope (SEST) at La Silla, Chile. The SEST has good spatial resolution: at the CO J = 2 – 1 line (230.5 GHz) the half power beam width is only about 22″. We have obtained data on two LMC SNRs: N49 and N132D, both of which have CO line emission in their vicinities.
