L. Abstract The results of high-resolution observations of several intermediate-velocity clouds of neutral hydrogen are briefly discussed and summarized. A model involving a supernova in its late "snowplow" phase of evolution to account for the presently observed momentum of the intermediate-velocity matter at high positive galactic latitudes is suggested. The correlation in position with a region of lack of zero-velocity matter is explained if the supernova occurred about 106 years ago at a distance of 130 pc so that much of the matter in the solar neighborhood has now been accelerated to the observed negative velocities.
