Abstract

High-resolution radio observations of 44 compact radio sources, less than ~ 1 arcmin in size, have been made with the Very Large Array⋆ and the Cambridge 5-km telescopes in a search for young but distant Galactic supernova remnants. The results for 42 sources that are not thought to be supernova remnants are presented here. The great majority of these are probably extra-galactic. Also discussed briefly are the selection criteria for, and the statistics of, young distant Galactic remnants.
