Abstract

Some new features of parametrically excited single and double standing solitons in a rectangular water trough are revealed experimentally, including the periodical reflections of a soliton near an end wall of the trough and the existence of the “mirror effect” at the boundaries as well as the further study of the collision dynamics of two like polarity solitons. On the basis of these results, a concept of a virtual soliton is proposed.
