Abstract

Image-tube-dissector scans of the central galaxy in the faint cluster 1305+2952 over the wavelength range from 4000 to 7100 A are examined. The strongest and most prominent features are shown to be a step in the continuum at 5140 A and a very large (R-I) color index. A redshift of 0.947 is taken to be the most probable value that is consistent with the observations. It is concluded that if this redshift is correct, the central galaxy is much more luminous and much bluer than standard (local) first-ranked cluster galaxies.
