Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of the drug-soaking amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT)in the treatment of bacterial corneal ulceration. Methods Prospective, non-comparative series case study. Fifteen eyes of 15 patients with bacterial ulceration were performed single or multilayered AMT. The wound healing time of the corneal ulceration, stromal inflammation subsided and decrease of corneal neovascularization were observed. The follow up time was 6-13 months. Results The stromal inflammation was improved at 7-14 days after surgery. Epithelial defects healed within 14-30 days after surgery. The visual acuity were improved in all patients but the corneal opacity and cataract were not changed. No complication occurred during the follow-up time. Conclusion The drug-soaking AMT for the treatment of bacterial keratitis can reduce dosing frequency, reduce the burden on patients and medical staff. Key words: Amnion, transplantation; Ulceration, corneal, bacterial; Corneal neovascularization
