Abstract

Objective To investigate the change of oxidative stress indicators and VEGF in aqueous humor and serum of patients with cataract. Methods One hundred and two patients (129 eyes) with cataract from April 2012 to June 2013 were selected as observation group, and included healthy volunteers 60 cases (120 eyes) in the same period as control group, then the levels of oxidative stress indicators (SOD,MDA,CAT,GSH-PX,LPO) and VEGF in aqueous humor and serum of two groups were compared, these indicators in aqueous humor of patients at different age intervals were also compared. Results The levels of MDA,CAT and VEGF in aqueous of observation group were higher than those indexes of control group, but the levels of SOD and GSH-PX were lower than those indexes of control group, all P <0.05.The levels of MDA,LPO and VEGF in serum of observation group were higher than those indexes of control group, but the levels of SOD were lower than those indexes of control group, all P <0.05.Increased with age,the levels of SOD and GSH-PX in aqueous of cataract patients were significantly decreased, and the levels of MDA and VEGF were significantly increased, all P <0.05.Conclusions The levels of oxidative stress indicators and VEGF in aqueous humor and serum of patients with cataract are different from normal population, and the level are related to the age. Key words: Cataract; Oxidative stress; VEGF
