Abstract
Photoluminescence (PL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) measurements were performed in order to investigate the existence of the valence states and to identify the formation of the oxysulfide in a SrS x O 1− x : Eu y phosphor. The PL spectra showed that the valence states of Eu in the SrS x O 1− x : Eu y were Eu 2+ and Eu 3+. The results of the XRD and XPS measurements, respectively, indicated the formation of the EuS phase and oxysulfide phase in SrS x O 1− x : Eu y .
