Abstract

Defects generated by a flux of α particles in a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) have been observed in a polarization microscope. The observed objects are treated as electrostatic defects with a dipole character induced in the NLC. This phenomenon can be used for the creation of ionizing radiation detectors.
