Abstract

The protein distribution in a pig's lens has been investigated by analyzing the intensity correlations of scattered light with a multiexponential method. When the protein motions in the lens are divided into four kinds (first component has the fastest and fourth the slowest motion), the following results are obtained: The protein motions of both the first and fourth components are slowed at the nucleus of the lens and are faster as the radial position moves toward the periphery. The scattered light intensity ratio of the first component is minimal at the lens nucleus although that of the fourth component is maximal. Both the protein motions and the intensity ratios of the second and third components are independent of the spatial position in the lens.
