Abstract

Events with a large rapidity gap have been observed in e + p charged current DIS at HERA. The data collected with the ZEUS detector in the running period 1999 and 2000 correspond to an integrated luminosity of 61 pb −1 . The excess in the yield of such events over the non-diffractive DIS expectation has been compared to models of diffractive scattering in the electroweak regime. The diffractive charged current cross section for the kinematic range Q 2 > 200 GeV 2 and x P 0.05 as well as its ratio to the total charged current cross section have been calculated.
