Abstract

Infrared spectra of Langmuir-Blodgett films of cadmium arachidate on glass plates were measured using photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-PAS). A spectrum of a single monolayer could be measured with reasonable signal to noise ratio. The orientation of the hydrocarbon chain and a frequency shift of the CH 3 stretching vibration in one monolayer films are discussed. The FTIR-PAS method was found to be useful for observation of infrared spectra of LB films on substrate materials which strongly absorb infrared radiation.
