Abstract

Earlier high-field magnetic moment measurements in Pd(Rh) alloys have been extended to 200 kG at 4.2°K. A B3 field dependence is clearly resolved at fields above 150 kG and is consistent with previous deviations barely detected at 150 kG for alloys near the maximum susceptibility (χmax≃1.8 χPd for 3 to 7% Rh in Pd). Only data to 150 kG were presented here. These results combined with recent high-resolution band calculations permit evaluation of the exchange enhancement D = 1/[1 − N(0)V] in the Pd(Rh) alloys with a minimum number of parameters, and place further limits on D in Pd.1 A field dependence has also been detected at 77°K for some of these alloys. These results were compared with the temperature and concentration dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of Pd(Rh) alloys and related electronic specific-heat data. Present estimates of band calculations were compared with estimates of exchange enhancement. The detailed results of these experiments will be published elsewhere.
