Abstract

The paramagnetic resonance spectra of Dy2+ in the cubic field of CaF2 were investigated at liquid-helium temperatures at frequencies of 9 to 27 kMc/sec. The nonmagnetic ground doublet (E) is strongly perturbed by two adjacent triplet states (T1 and T2) and transitions within the E state are made allowed. The T1 triplet state which is separated by 4.9 cm—1 from the ground state doublet has a g value along the [001] direction of 9.66±0.02 for the outer splitting. The observed splittings of the E and T1 states are in good agreement with the calculated values using the reported ratio of the cubic field parameters.
