Abstract

In spite of the very short coherence length of superconducting YBa2Cu3O7, we have obtained with several groups reproducible tunneling spectra showing two gap-like structures appearing for T<92°K (ΔH = 20–30mV) and T<30°K (ΔL = 6 to 8mV) . In addition, we have obtained in numerous spectra oscillations lying between ΔL and ΔH. We think that they are de Gennes Saint-James oscillations. If such an interpretation is correct, it indicates that the two gap like structures are due to the presence of two superconductive phases near the YBa2 Cu3 O7 surface with TcL ≃ 30°K and TCH = 92°K . The nearly constant values of ΔL and TCL found by different groupsindicate that the presence of the two phases might be an intrinsic property of YBa2 Cu3 O7.
