Abstract
We have produced and analysed the “Coherent Spontaneous Emission” (CSE) and the “Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission” (SASE) emitted by a relativistic electron beam passing through an undulator, for the first time in the mid-infrared. In this spectral range, the two phenomena are both very noisy and can be distinguished only by detailed spectral measurements. The spectral behaviour of the SASE line is different from CSE and exhibits an unexpected growth at the start-up of the process.
