Abstract

This chapter explains how relevant hygrothermal standards adopt different hygrothermal models to assess moisture and condensation risk and provides a snapshot of the current regulatory state of the art in regard to moisture, condensation and associated risks for public health in the built environment. The focus is on Europe, America and Australia. This enables a comparative analysis of the building codes adopted in Europe and America, which are leaders in research and standardisation through the ISO and ASHRAE standards, and the special case of Australia, where the National Construction Code included moisture management provisions to address the condensation issue for the first time in 2019.
