Abstract

AbstractAn algorithm is described for the generation of hybrid grids suitable for viscous computations around complex geometries. The definition of the geometry is given by the ISO standard STEP format. The grid generation is based on a hierarchical approach. The user‐specified parameters are given on all basic STEP entities and the definition is consistent across the complete geometry. Semi‐structured layers of prismatic cells are generated, starting from the viscous boundaries of the domain. The remaining volume is filled by an unstructured Delaunay algorithm with frontal node creation. Complex models have been successfully gridded, however, more testing is needed.
