Abstract

Obesity is nowadays understood as universal epidemic and became an important cause of death and co-morbidities. The search for a more accurate and convenient method to evaluate obesity is important. The purpose of present study was to built an Obesity Matrix to classify obesity. In this paper the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) constructed an Obesity Matrix. Different values of BMI and WC used for validating the proposed method classify individuals in 4 Quadrant according BMI cut-offs and WC cut-offs with degrees of compatibility more realistic than Boolean classification. According to the classification of Obesity Matrix the prevalence of overweight was 1.88%, the prevalence of central obesity was 3.38%, the prevalence of obesity was 7.88% respectively in a population of college students. In conclusion, this paper proposed a novel-Obesity Matrix which was a more accurate and convenient method to evaluate obesity.
