Abstract

Although it is well known that obesity is an established and important determinant of cardiovascular risks [1–3], there appears on the horizon a new non-medical reason for not getting fat. China is world's most popular country for prospective adoptive parents, because of overabundance of unwanted babies, especially baby girls, from its strict one-child policy [4,5]. Now China is considering new rules to restrict adoptions; one such criterion is that the would-be parents should not have a body mass index (BMI) over 40 [6].
