Abstract

Obesity is now the most common nutritional disorder in western industrialised countries. Defined as a body mass index of greater than 30, the prevalence of obesity in the US and Europe is reaching epidemic levels and it is estimated that over 30 000 deaths a year are caused by obesity in England alone. Steve Ainsworth explains.
