Abstract

On behalf of the Division of Nutritional Sciences of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Research Foundation, I would like to welcome you to the Workshop on The Effects of Sweeteners on Food Intake, a most important topic, and to tell you that we are very pleased to sponsor the workshop. ILSI Research Foundation is a public, non-profit foundation established to provide funding for research and to support educational programs in toxicology and nutrition. The foundation has three divisions: the Research Awards Division; the Division of Nutritional Sciences, which is a specialized resource for nutrition research and educational activities; and the Pathology and Toxicology Division, which encompasses ILSI's ongoing educational activities in toxicology and pathology. The activities of all three divisions are long term in nature and international in scope. The Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) was established in January 1987 to enhance and expand the nutrition research activities of the ILSI Research Foundation, to provide a focus for nutrition research and education and to serve as a scientific resource in all aspects of nutrition for ILSI. The major scientific thrusts of the Division of Nutritional Sciences are the health implications of obesity the role of omega-3 fatty acids in health and disease and their relationship to omega-6 fatty acids genetics and nutrition the scientific basis of dietary recommendations.
