They retrospectively analyzed data on nearly 1.2 million 17-year-olds who underwent a medical examination 1 year prior to conscription into military service between 1967 and 1997, and linked this cohort to the Israeli ESRD registry. Baseline measurements of height, weight, blood pressure (BP), and dipstick urinalysis were obtained during the examination. Individuals who had hematuria or proteinuria were excluded from the study. Body mass index (BMI) subgroups for age and sex were classified according to the 2000 US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention definitions.
