Abstract

Background: According to the study by Temel et al. (N Engl J Med 2010;363:733), early palliative care can lead to improvements not only in quality of life and mood but also in survival for patients with non-small cell lung cancer. As survival in patients with lung cancer has been improving, implantation of a central venous (CV) port for providing easy vascular access to anti-cancer drugs has been a recent trend for patients with lung cancer at our institution; these patients received home palliative care using multi-disciplinary approaches coordinated by regional medical liaison.
