Abstract

in 10-mm group (43.3% vs. 5.4%; p < 0.01). After TIPS, the decrease in PPG was significantly higher in 10-mm group (10.4±4.2 vs. 8.7±3.5mmHg; p =0.004). The 3-months need of paracentesis was not statistically different (23% vs. 18%; p =0.36), however the longterm need of paracentesis was higher in 8-mm group (58% vs. 31%; p =0.003). Overall HE, severe HE (grade III-IV), new episodes or worsening of HE, acute HE, chronic HE, and cumulative probability of developing the first episode of HE were similar in both groups. Similarly, no significant differences were observed in new episodes of VB, SBP, TIPS dysfunction, Child–Pugh score, MELD, need of liver transplantation, overall survival and transplant-free survival. Conclusions: This study supports the use of 10-mm diameter ePTFE-covered stent in cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites.
