Abstract

Chronic pain is pain experienced every day for 3 months within a 6 months period, involving the sensory, affective and cognitive spheres, having as its pathophysiological basis the neurocircuitry in the prefrontal and limbic brain regions. The prevalence is 18% in the general population of developing countries, and only 40%-50% of patients achieve 30% relief in the clinical setting. Treatment with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has two widely explored targets: the primary motor cortex (M1), and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (CPFdl)
