Abstract
Este artigo apresenta uma análise sobre a tese de doutorado de Marcuse, Der Deutsche Künstlerroman (O Romance de Artista Alemão). Obra ainda pouco explorada em língua portuguesa e que expõe de forma embrionária reflexões que serão a base da teoria estética de Marcuse nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, tais como a separação entre arte e vida e a alienação artística. Busca-se demonstrar a relação íntima entre arte e utopia no primeiro trabalho de Marcuse.
