Abstract

The learning process promotes the restructuring of thought, building new skills and knowledge, taking into account the prior experiences and cultural beliefs, adding innovative ideas. Environmental education is of critical global issues, their causes and interrelationships in a systemic perspective on the social and historical context enabling the individual to work conflicts, integrate knowledge, values, change attitudes and actions, seeking the transformation of poor environmental habits and behaviors. Reflecting these perspectives and moving to a location where environmental education can promote a new share of the relationship man/nature, the project seeks to contribute to building knowledge and training of the ecological self in a space no formal ONG Talitha Kum, located in the Village Sao Geraldo - Sao Leopoldo, serving children, adolescents and their nuclear families, living in the river, victims of social vulnerability. The Environmental Education Project conducted theoretical and practical activities involving the community, neighborhood schools and ONG Talitha Kum. Through questionnaires, home visits, lectures in schools, planting seedlings, cleaning and training in the square, analysis of the effects of the Environmental Education Project found an improvement in quality of life, social and environmental terms, and values of citizenship, building knowledge and developing the ecological self.
